Taking Firearms Shipment From Non FFL

Are there any downfalls to taking firearms shipments from non FFL's? One thing I'm not that comfortable with is sending a copy of my FFL to a random person but maybe thats just my own FUD. Is there any problems with this?

Also, how would the non FFL seller provide a CFLC number or is this not necessary when coming from a private individual?

First, it's not necessary that you provide an FFL copy to an unlicensed seller. It's only required in transfers between licensees. Just provide the first 3 and last 5 numbers of the FFL and the individual can verify your license validity and premises address via the FFL eZCheck system. It's located at BATF eZCheck

CFLC numbers are not required for shipments by unlicensed individuals.

What he said. In addition, don't give out your information until you get a copy of the person's ID/DL. While it is not required, it helps to document where you got the firearm from. If you don't get it in advance, you might never get it.

Also, I would never give your license to a non-licensee. There is no need or reason to give it to them.

I think you also need the secondhand dealer license but I'm guessing you have one. Although my city doesn't seem to have one so that brings up some other requirements. Haven't dug too deep on it yet.

Why? I am not selling it. I am just doing a transfer.

You need a secondhand dealer permit if you are buying a used firearm for your business inventory. Receiving a firearm from a private party to be transferred to another person is not buying the firearm for the business inventory, so no secondhand dealer permit would be needed.

              I didn't realize it was a transfer.
