procedural question on purchase

I want to purchase a handgun, but Im leaving town for a month soon. Can my ffl delay the dros process until I return? or should I have the seller delay shipping until I return? thanks

The gun can sit in your FFL's safe until the DROS is started, at which point the 30 days starts. I think.

yes if the gun is shipped now I wouldn't make it back in time.

Only your FFL can answer this question. I personally would have zero problem sitting on a customer's firearm for a month or even more. I have plenty of storage space.

Some dealers charge a holding fee. Check with the dealer if they request such a fee and if they do, it's your choice if you want to pay it, ask them not to charge, or find another dealer.

As said, it is up to your FFL. It is also possible to fill out the DROS worksheet, which then your FFL could submit 10 days before you return. Your ID/DL would still need to be run through the reader (strange requirement).
