Convince an FFL to ship to CA?

    Hello,

I was in a very friendly Colorado dealer and found one of my "grail" handguns in the used case at a very attractive price. This dealer normally ships to CA, but since the gun was off roster she would not ship it to my 07 FFL. Nothing I said would change her mind because she is convinced that it's her FFL on the line if she ships an off-roster gun to CA.

Do we have any official documentation that I could give her on my next visit that states it's the receiving FFL's problem and not hers?

    Thanks!

Did you ask your FFL in California to call her and explain it?
Never initiate force against another. That should be the underlying principle of your life. But should someone do violence to you, retaliate without hesitation, without reservation, without quarter, until you are sure that he will never wish to harm - or never be capable of harming - you or yours again.

I tried. I had him on the phone but she wouldn't even talk to him. If you think about it, that makes sense - he could have been anyone.

The FFL can look up the information from the BATF and call the phone number listed.

I am not sure of why some FFLs don't understand that the issue is in regards to transferring it to the customer, which means it is on the CA FFL, not from the remote FFL. A CA FFL can buy and sell handguns not on the list. They can also sell such firearms to those who are exempt.

Using a middleman, as offered above, tends to eliminate the issues as well.

Ask them to contact any of the major wholesalers and ask if they ship non-rostered handguns to CA. They all do. Some make you do it in a round-a-bout fashion, but they all do. RSR just ships anything to CA, but Acusport and the rest make you special order it through the rep.

I've PM'd EFILLC, but I wonder if the source FFL would still have a cow since my personal address is in CA and she is shipping to an entirely different state and the "gun could be traced back to her" after it hits CA. I can only try...

Thanks for all of the help!

If the FFL has an issue, I can talk to them as well. They might not want to talk to me, but you can ask. I am sure that other FFLs would also talk to them.
