yes, it can be corrected. I had it happen to me in the past. The FFL filled out a DROS correction form to note the correct serial number when I picked up the handgun.

well, since the FFL doesn't enter in a serial number on a long gun DROS, it really only matters for handguns.

now, if you are talking about the federal 4473 and not the CA DROS, then I'm not sure what the FFL does to correct that after he has signed it.

Because it is the law.

There is still a record, multiple records actually.

If it is over 30 days, then you need to print out and send in the CA DOJ cancellation/correction form. I have a copy of the form if anyone needs it. I am not sure of where it is on the CA DOJ web site. If it is within 30 days, changes can be made on the DROS system. There is a limited number of changes for the DROS system and in some cases it might have to be cancelled and re-submitted.

Because they still need to do a background check on you. The DROS is the procedure for performing that.
