Looking for current information on ITAR

Howdy:

Looking for some updated information on ITAR. I have googled and found many statements about when to pay or not from many different source on the internet, including Calguns.

There are some news stories out there from last summer that indicate some reform was happening that should be a benefit to the small-time FFL07.

So, the question is, has anything changed regarding ITAR?

We are changing our FFL from 01 - 07 in the near future and the primary reason will be for assembly of AR15 parts for rifle sales. Caliber changes and some manufacturing of firearm components may follow, but in the beginning assembly will be the only manufacturing we are doing.

Nothing has changed.

There's a guy on FFL Only whose 07 was issued this past spring, and he got the "pay up or else" letter from DoS about two months later.

Export Control reform is on the way but the changes haven't quite been implemented. All of the different agencies have been working together and with those in the trade community to determine what changes will be taking place and when they will be implemented.

But as of now, if you are engaged in the business of manufacturing or exporting defense articles or furnishing defense services then you are still required to register.
