How do you really feel about doing PPT's?

How do you really feel about doing PPT's? Seems like a LOT of paperwork and liability for not a lot of money. First, there are the audits, than the impatient customers, the fact that a sales clerk is tied up doing paperwork and not selling, and in the event of a break-in, you have to make good on the guns in storage.

Whats not to like???!!!!

I don't mind them too much, it does suck when the drivers licenses don't read though.

Most people don't like doing it, I actually don't mind it because it keeps me busy and I am good at it. But it is extra paperwork and time, and it costs the FFL money. The state only sets a limit because shops would have to charge a much higher price for the transfer to be profitable. Additionally, when you work on the otherside of the counter one thing you learn is that there is a huge chance that there will be some sort of problem, seems to happen around a quarter of the time. In large shops, like the one I work at, I'd strongly urge you to bring/buy a hard case because not only does it provide the best protection from damage but it sure makes it a lot easier to store and find.

I just do them. I treat them like any other transaction. I don't love them, I don't hate them, I just do them.

My main complaint with PPTs is that the DROS system does not have an option to print out customer copies with the other person's information removed. I normally give the customer a copy of the DROS, but with PPTs I don't unless they ask since I have to print it, scan it, remove the information and then print out that copy. If the system allowed the FFL to print the buyer's copy, the seller's copy and the FFL's copy, then it would not be a bother at all.

I also agree with Wes. I don't love them or hate them, it is just another transfer.

That would be great but the state's IT people cannot even figure out how to get the handgun DROS to print on one page!! And, while they are fixing that they need to make the seller's signature block larger!!

As far as PPTs go, it would be nice to not lose money doing them but it's all a part of owning the FFL so it doesn't make any difference to me.

Well, since no one submitted a bid on the new version, the next version (2014) will not be out-sourced (unless something changes).

Part of the problem is with Windoze. All my DROS fit on one page, it is a matter of the size that you select.

They work for me. Brings customers in and they usually end up picking up ammo for their new "purchase."

They are ok as long as the buyer has everything in order. When someone comes in to do a PPT but got his license confiscated the day before for driving on a suspended license and gets mad at us I hate it.

Is that a true story? You should tell them that the good news is it would have cost him $35 if they hadn't gotten it confiscated because the squirrel would have started his DROS and it would have been DMV rejected anyway.
