FFL-03 Curios and Relics

I received my 03- Collector of Curios and Relics Federal Firearms License.
I assumed I was turned down due to the time it took to process. I am very pleased to receive the license and I am at this point discovering the limits and advantages of this privlege.
The laws and rules that encompass the Federal Firearm Licensing of all types is vast and complicated. I am sure I am preaching to the choir to you good people.
I am one who does appreciate those of you that make a living processing the sale and transfer of firearms. It was never my intention to sell or process firearms for other people. This license that I received in it's limited capacity is a nice tool to the collector of specific historical pieces.
I hope to use this tool to reduce the red-tape if I discover a firearm that falls in the select category which I am able to acquire.
I would appreciate advice regarding the do's and dont's from those of you that have learned the hard way.

Don't forget that an added perk to getting an 03 is that many online retailers give you a nice discount after registering with them. (Like Midway and Grafs, for example.)

First things first, don't sign your license. Make lots of copies and sign those. Go to the Post Office and buy a roll of stamps and pick up some envelopes. Next, look up the vendors list stickied in the C&R forum. Send a signed copy to each vendor that you'd like to do business with(all of them) along with a polite letter requesting they keep you on file. Include your email address for those that have web sites and ask to be put on their e/mailing list. You'll start getting flyers via snail mail and promotional emails from them as they receive your information. Fold an unsigned copy(or 2) of your C&R and put it in your wallet. That way when you happen across something you want you're ready to do business.

While waiting to hear back from them, start reading the reference guide/law books the ATF sent you. Pay special attention to the areas in Chapter 44 dealing with 03 FFL's. Read the entire California section in the state law book. You can brush up on other states as you do business with them. If you don't understand something, get a lawyer to explain it to you. Be certain of your knowledge, it's your main defense against making a legal error.

Create, or buy, a bound book before you order any firearms. Always enter new acquisitions the same day you receive them. Same goes for selling a C&R, make sure you get the buyers information/copy of DL or C&R.

Hit up the C&R forum for more suggestions. Try not to go broke.

Do buy a bigger safe

Also look into a COE, if you have one with your C&R you can avoid the 10 day wait when buying a C&R gun from a california dealer. Some say it is not worth it but I live 40-60 miles from the gun shops I go to and I have saved twice the cost of the COE in gas by not having to go back a second time for pickup.

How do you register your 03ffl with Midway? I can't find anywhere in the account management to enter my license number.

You sign up for an account, contact CS via email stating you have a 03FFL and include attach your FFL. They convert your account. I found that to be an easier way.
