    DROS question

I think you can only PPT five handgubs in a year. By all means correct me if I am wrong.

Hypothetically, can you DROS 15 handguns at one time (one paper work) to your brother to hold for your underage son?

    Thanks

You are limited to five transactions, so you can PPT 15 handguns at one time to your brother and it will only count as one transaction.

If your son is over 18 then you can give him the handguns now. If your brother is the one giving the handguns to your son at some time in the future then your son will need to be 21 and the transfer will have to go through a dealer/DROS.

Why give them to your brother? As far as the law is concerned, your brother is the same as any other random person off the street. If possible, take advantage of CA intrafamilia transfer laws; straight up or down the bloodline don't require DROS. Or if actual registration isn't the issue, give them to your wife to hold onto and take advantage of community property laws.

        thanks guys.

I've build up a good collection of guns for myself in the last 3 years since I started shooting. I plan to give them to my son (now 10 years old). But planning for the unexpected..want to maybe give them to my brother to hold until he comes of age. I told my wife of my wishes, but she is a buddhist who doesn't understand why I want him to learn muay thai, brazilian jiu-jitsu, philipino stick/knife fighting, and modern firearms training.

I spent a great amount of thought in buying these guns and more importantly customizing them with grips, sights, triggers, etc: 2 CZ SP-01s, 3 Sigs, HK P2000, Walther PPQ, G17, G19, G34, 2 XDs, 4 M&Ps, 2 Les Baer. I've given my son instructions on which guns to keep and DO NOT SALE.

Guess I am getting old cause I can't wait to impart the knowledge that I have accumulated over the last three years from reading on calguns. I just have the urge to teach him to detail strip, field strip, etc

just an old man worrying I guess .

Why not keep them in the family and just will them to your kid so your wife doesn't have to really "deal" with it. I would assume this is the same as you giving them to your brother who would eventually give them to your son.
