    Customer requested shipment...

Interesting question for the more experienced ffls out there. I have a client (who's a bit of a know it all pain in the butt) who is going to Alaska on a hunting trip. He shipped his handgun to a local shop up there because apearently he's driving rather than flying and Canada will not all him to bring his pistol with him through their country.

He is insistent that on his return trip he can mail the firearm to me to hold for his pick up. Is this the case? Regardless, how would it be handeled as far as paperwork? Log it as a "gun smithing" or would it constitute a re-DROS?

As it stands I told him I'm not comfortable with the transaction with out first doing a little research and told him to call me before he gets ready to leave Alaska for further instructions.

    Any help is appreciated.

I processed the original dros for the pistol so I would be able to cross reference the sn with my records.... And that's my thoughts as well... Couldn't he just mail the weapon to him self?

Private individuals cannot "mail" handguns in the USPS. He can use UPS, Fed ex, etc to ship the gun to himself from Alaska.

yes, by mail I meant ship... most know USPS is a no-no, and even UPS won't take it by ground if you declare it a firearm.

He ships it to himself. I am not sure how he is shipping it to another dealer in Alaska. I guess he could claim he needed it cleaned for gunsmithing and then just take back possession in person.

I wouldn't accept it back. I would simply tell him to mail it to himself via UPS or Fed-Ex and require signature so they don't deliver it without him being there.
www.tenpercentfirearms.com was open from 2005 until 2018. I now own Westside Arms.
