Dros fee question

There should have been two DROS submitted, which means signing two DROS forms and two thumb prints. You can also ask for a copy of the DROS form (I normally give a copy). As far as I know, one 4473 can be done.

OP was right to get charged $50 since handguns and longguns require different DROS.

But shouldn't he have had to fill out 2 forms/give 2 thumb prints as well (since they are on different DROS/forms)?

Handgun DROS and Longgun DROS are 2 different forms. The archaic looking CA DROS website has them on 2 different buttons also. They were right to charge you $50. Still a rip off....but legally required.


Next time you buy long guns, just buy 10 to get your money's worth (one $25 DROS) =x

I bought a New colt AR-15 and a Glock 27 2 days ago in a shop.
when i do the transfer. They charged me $25 twice ($50). They explained to me each gun (a handgun and a long gun) will need different dros and hence i was charged twice. But i only do the paper work once.
My question is, is that true that i have to pay dros twice or they are just overcharging me?

If you are signing and thumbprinting two DROS forms, then it is $50. If you are just signing and thumbprinting one DROS form then they are piggybacking your AR15 onto your handgun and it only cost them $25.

They could in theory attach two DROS to one 4473, but I always put them on two 4473s because I wouldn't want two DROS numbers in the NICS box on the back page for some reason.

2 DROS fees charged by the state, one for a handgun and one for one or more long guns. $50.00 sent to the DOJ to take your gun rights away. and to complete background checks on the same day for the same person.

I think you can put multiple long guns on one DROS but only 1 handgun per DROS.
