    CA Approved Gun Locks

How does an FFL know if a gun lock (cable type) is CA approved or not?

I've had several cable type gun locks and none of them have had any indicators, other then "Made in China" on them that designate their CA approved. This includes those made by UTG and the CL55Bs, which most FFLs I've run across sell.

Bad advice! disregard the following the receipt showing you purchased it in CA within the last 90 days is what matters

clarificiation - 30 days. You need the lock and the receipt.

If the SELLER has a lock with the brand name of the gun - implying that it's original equipment - that is also enough - or has been wrt most LGS.

Ah, thanks. What a bunch of BS though. So in other words, there are no CA approved cable type locks. A CA FFL or CA retailer can buy them from more or less anywhere, but because it's sold to the consumer (in CA), usually for double $$$, that makes it CA approved. Hah. Sounds like another sales tax money making scheme by the state.

Horrible answer and not correct. A receipt showing you purchased a non-approved lock does you no good.

          To answer the question.

As of January 1, 2002, no firearm may be sold, transferred, or manufactured within California unless that firearm is accompanied by a DOJ-approved firearms safety device (California Penal Code section 23620, et seq).

If it is not on this list you cannot use it at a gun dealer and a gun dealer that sells FSDs not on this list is guilty of a crime.
