Refuse a Receiving FFL a Copy of Your FFL

I know the law doesn't require it but as a courtesy it's nice to have a copy of the sending dealer's FFL for the A/D book.

How many of you flat out refuse to send a copy and refuse to even give your number (n-nn-xxx-xx-xx-nnnnn) when called.

I know of at least one in CA.

I sent a copy to FFLs, but not to non-licensees. Giving the number for the ezcheck is normal since all shippers need to check the status, but even for firearms that I am shipping, the other FFL should make sure that I am a FFL.

So who is the one who won't?

I am not a fan of anyone trying to make me do anything that is above what the law requires. I usually include a copy of my FFL. What makes me mad is when people won't send me a copy of their FFL because I am going to ship them a gun until I send them a copy of mine.

I download the FFL database and so I can search and check the status of the FFL before I sent a copy of my FFL and I won't send a copy of my FFL unless I already confirmed that the other person has a valid FFL.

Yes, it is annoying when the receiving FFL demands a copy of the FFL before sending their since there is no requirement that they get a copy, but then again there are many other annoying things that are done :-).

No names since there is no legal requirement to provide a courtesy copy but refusing to even give me his abbreviated number so I could at least put that in my A/D book really ticked me off.

Maybe I should have tried that with this guy. If I'd known what a cantancerous old coot he was, I might have.

When I send my FFL through email, I encrypt it with their complete FFL number, so I already know their number :-).

You can always look up their number through the database, but I am not sure that I would want to use it unless it actually came from the FFL.

I did use an MS Access db loaded with the current ATF txt download to get his complete information. I had no problem using that in the A/D book since a call to his listed phone number got answered with the business name I was expecting to hear.

He did demand a signed copy of my FFL to be sent by USPS to even get the firearms moving...FAXes or emails wouldn't do. My customer's needs are more important to me than his curious annoying quirks but I hope I don't have to deal with him again.

I had one of those once, so I mailed my wet-ink signature FFL off so I could receive the gun. Gun arrived with the guy's FFL all right - it was a C&R.

                I was beyond ticked.

That is why you should check the BATF database BEFORE sending a copy of your FFL. You want to make sure that you are dealing with a FFL and not sending your FFL to a non-licensee.
