I have a question regarding purchasing a firearm online. If I see a CA compliant handgun online through a retailer, do I purchase it with my money and have it shipped to an FFL and then I pick it up from them after the wait, or does the FFL buy it and I pay for it when I go to pick it up before the 10-day wait? I appreciate any help.

First contact your ffl and see how much they charge for out of state purchase. Depending on where you go the fee can be $25-150 on top of the dros. Also make sure the website or person you buy it from is willing to ship to ca, some don't. You would pay for the gun + shipping to your ffl. Then once it arrives, you go to your ffl to start the dros and pay for all the fees + tax on the price of the gun.. Wait 10 days then pick up your new gun.
It might be cheaper if you just buy the gun you want from your lgs(local gun store) .

Alright, it sounds like a hassle. I was thinking I would save money due to the sale price, but now looking at it, probably not so much. It's just hard when you see the same gun for $150 more at the lgs than online, not including fees. I'd probably be best off finding a used gun and doing a ppt at the store. Thank you.Comment

Typically you would paid for the firearm and have it sent to the FFL. The FFL is not going to want to be out the money or have to deal with you paying them and then they paying the other place, unless the FFL is ordering it.
Sometimes it can be cheaper to buy the firearm online, other times it is not, but as was said, you need to check things out in advance.Kemasa.
