    FFL to FFL Transfers

Is there something special or lengthy about this process? most Gunshops/FFLs I've contacted are not willing to do them.

anyone in Southern California have any leads?

Transfer of a long gun (CA Legal AR) from me to an FFL as he cannot receive from an individual.

I'm not in Southern California but there is no law that prevents an FFL from receiving a legal firearm from a non-licensee. Individual dealers may have their own policies against it however. They may also have policies against receiving certain types of firearms (e.g., non-rostered handguns or any thing that looks like an AW).

The sending FFL would need to genereate a "Firearms Shipment Approval" letter for the receiving FFL. Ironically, a non-licensee would not.

It seems your problem is not with the law but with the FFL. Be more specific on the location you want to send it and someone here may suggest another FFL.

Be aware that the receiving FFL may charge the buyer whatever he wants for the transfer.

    Good luck.
    Jim

I am not sure of what the actual question is.

The subject is FFL to FFL transfers, which is not an issue. There are many SoCal FFLs which could ship for you, although some might not want to deal with an AR type firearm for some reason.

Could you explain what exactly you are looking to do and where you are?

          I apologize for being vague.

To clarify, I the seller in Southern California (Torrance area) want to send my CA Legal AR15 to the buyer which resides in Northern California.

The Buyer has told me he has an 01 FFL License but needs the rifle to be sent by an FFL/ CA approval letter.

          thomje PM sent.

As Halifax noted there is absolutely no legal requirement that the firearm be shipped from an FFL. This is just the receiving FFL's policy.

I would tell the buyer that you will not ship it from an FFL unless he pays for it. So that leaves him the option of paying for it, finding a new FFL to do the transfer, or backing out of the deal.

As a gun store I do not want to have to send your rifle because it is a waste of both of our time and your money when it is perfectly legal for you to ship it without having to bother to get a CFLC letter.

I'm not a FFL just curious what are the reasons for a receiving FFL not to accept from private person. Thanks

Buyer may not pass the background check thereby creating a situation where the FFL cannot ship the gunback to the seller. Or Buyer not happy with condition of firearm. Buyer wants his money back and won't pay to have the gun shipped back to the seller. Seller doesn't want gun anymore and wont pay to have it shipped back to an FFL for transfer back to them. FFL stuck in the middle. Cluster F*&%K in the making.

The seller shipping an illegally configured firearm to the FFL is another scenario.

Stolen gun, fake name and address is another. An FFL accepting a firearm for shipment would most likely confirm the seller's ID before accepting it.

All great reasons for FFL's to only deal with FFL's on shipments. That being said. We will work with our customers to help them get the firearm they want here in the most economical and least expensive way, up to and including NOT requiring them to use an FFL on the shipping end.

We do this for customers with a developed relationship with us. They trust us and we trust them. Knock on wood, so far so good. I am sure most of the FFLS here feel the same way about their good customers.

                            No problem.

I am in Simi Valley, which is a bit of a distance from you, but I could ship it for you.

As said, I would tell the buyer that since it is a requirement of the FFL, not law, that he would get to pay for the FFL to ship it or find another FFL which does not have such a requirement.

The buyer is an 01 FFL, and said he would pay for the FFL fee down here on my end. Just the hassle of finding one here. Kemasa I pmed thomje as he is in Irvine, however, I may have to take you up on the offer.

Thank you for the replies guys.
