Can my father sell my rifle for me?

Greetings calguns,

I wasn't sure where exactly to post this, so I'm hoping its the right place. I also tried finding some info about this situation but couldn't find anything specific.

My question is: I (personally) purchased a rifle a couple months ago and I'm considering selling it to fund something else. If I'm out of town, can my father do the private party transfer at an FFL for me?

Assuming both you and your dad are California residents, and he can legally own firearms, then yes, you can legally give the rifle to your dad and then it is legally his to do with what he pleases, including selling it.

That's what I was thinking since the intrafamilial transfer of long guns does not require paperwork.
