Can I buy a handgun AND rifle at the same time?

Hello, I was honestly not sure which forum in which to ask this question, so I thought that the FFLs here may be able to provide some answers since they've probably experienced what I am about to describe:

I turn 21 next month (June 13th), and for my birthday presents I was planning on purchasing a second-hand Ruger MK II (I know the MK III is on the Roster, but I've heard that you should go for a MK II if it's available). At the same time, I was planning on purchasing a new (LNIB probably) Ruger 10/22 Carbine with the hardwood stock.

My question is this: is it legal to purchase both guns at the same store/FFL at the same time? Also, do I have to wait 10 days per gun (20 days total) or do I only have to wait one set of 10 days and pick up both guns at the same time?

Thank you for your time and input!

    -Ryan

Yes, but iirc they have to be on operate e DROS

10 days wait total, not two sets of 10.

That is correct, and you have to pay DROS for both. You can add as many long guns as you want on the same DROS, but handguns are each separate.

OK, so if I were to purchase, say a shotgun and rifle at the same time, I would only need to fill out one DROS form for the both of them.

But if I wanted to buy a handgun (one per month, dumb law ), I would have to fill out the DROS for every handgun that I'd purchase.

And that if I were to purchase both at the same time, I'd only have to wait for 10 days and then be able to pick up both guns at the same time. Luckily it doesn't stack up based on how many guns you buy at once (3 guns = have to wait a whole month ) at least.... not YET

Correct, any number of non-handguns can be put on one DROS as long as it is part of a single sale, loan or transfer. This may change in 2014.

Yes, each handgun has to be reported on a separate DROS.

Correct, the waiting period is concurrent, not sequential. Each DROS has its own waiting period, so the total waiting period would be slightly over 240 hours (minutes) since not all of the DROS would be submitted at the same exact time unless the dealer has multiple computers to submit both at the same time.

You can use one 4473 but you must run a separate DROS for the handgun and the longgun.

The only caveat may be where you purchase the long gun. For instance, if you purchase it at Big 5, they can refuse to PPT the hand gun as they do not sell handguns.

                Another exemption from Calguns wiki:
Handguns transferred through PPT are exempt from the 1 per 30 days rule. (Penal Code 12072(a)(9)(B)(viii)) Note that the City of Los Angeles has a local ordinance imposing 1 in 30 days even on PPT.

Does this mean people can DROS a handgun from a dealer, then PPT as many as they want in 30 days?

I bought a hand gun and a long gun at the same time. The dealer offered to pick up the tab for the second dros .. just sayin'
