When does the 30 days start? ANS: Timestamp on the DROS

I bought a handgun at the end of last month. I am doing a SSE transfer and have to wait for the parts for the SSE which means my DROS wont be started for approxamately 20 days after the prchase. I want to buy another handgun but am not clear on the 1 in 30 rule. My question is, when does the 1 in 30 day handgun purchase date start? At time of purchase (invoice) or time of submission of DROS or DROS + 10 day wait?

    Thanks,

    RR

The time stamp on your dros the day you purchased it is the start.

More specifically it is just the time stamp on the DROS regardless of when you purchase/paid.

Correct. Think of it as "You can DROS one handgun every 30 days." You can buy more than that, I've bought and paid for 3 guns in one day. My FFL just holds them, and DROS's them out one every 30 days.

Is it 30 24 hour periods?

As in, if I DROS'D a handgun 04/26/12 @ 18:03 PM, when EXACTLY can I start my next DROS?

I have heard the DOJ rounds down, but I have not confirmed that.

So in theory your 30 days expires on 5/26/12 at 1804. However, the rumor is you are good to go on 5/26/12 at 0000. I usually have people wait until 1804 or even 5/27/12 just to be safe.

From what I understand yes it is 30, 24 hour periods.

Although I've been hesitant to try to DROS a handgun at the exact mark when my 30 is up because with my luck something will get tripped up and I'll need to wait longer so I normally just go the next day.

I would like to go the next day, but they are closed on Sundays and the next day is memorial day. And I have another pistol waiting DROS after this one

It's probably safer to wait until the next day (day 31). Although I'm 100% sure there will be poeple post that they've done it on day 30, and maybe even on day 30 before the actual "deadline" time. I've got 2 purchases alreayd made with zero DROS'd cause they're not in stock. Once they come in, I'll DROS the first and then 31 days later DROS the 2nd.
It was not a threat. It was an exaggerated response to an uncompromising stance. I was taught never to make a threat unless you are prepared to carry it out and I am not a fan of carrying anything. Even watching other people carrying things makes me uncomfortable. Mainly because of the possibility they may ask me to help.

It is a to the minute timeframe. We have had 30 day violations for being drosed on the 30th day. We advise to wait 31 days to be safe.

I successfully dros'd my gun 720 hours and 15 minutes after my last purchase. Picked up the gun about a week ago. I still agree that you might as well wait til the 31st day.
