    Transfer to myself?

I wasn't certain where this would actually go, so please forgive if it's the wrong forum.

I'm looking to get an FFL3 and COE at some point in the near future. I have several C&R pistols (some over 100 years old and some over 80 years old) and was curious about getting them off my AFS and into the bound book, that way at least those ones aren't searchable if the CADOJ wants to dox us all again and now that all of the digital information seems to be available to anyone, it just seemed to be an answer. I'm not really buying newer guns anymore and am basically only looking to do C&Rs from this point, so it seemed to make some sense.

Is this even a thing that is possible or an I completely misreading/misinterpreting the whole idea?

I had heard this also. Once in AFS, always in AFS.

However, this DOJ FAQ is interesting. It implies if you get rid of the only gun you have in AFS, you can no longer do the standard ammo check. Interesting. https://www.oag.ca.gov/firearms/apfaqs#28

www.tenpercentfirearms.com was open from 2005 until 2018. I now own Westside Arms.

But in a normal sense, if I sell a gun, doesn't it drop off the AFS? As noted by tenpercentfirearms, if I have no guns, I can't even pass the basic firearms check for ammo, which would imply if I sell, it drops off.

Of do I have to file an NLIP with the state once I sell?

Regardless of what you do AFS will still show your DROS. Even if you file a NLIP form all that does is update the listing for that particular firearm showing the date you got rid of it, and who you transferred it to.

DOJ will not accept a incomplete NLIP form, so you have to include the name and complete information about the person or FFL you sold the gun to.

AFS is a historical record. It lists all past persons who have DROSED that particular gun.

Regardless of what you do, you will always be listed and connected to any firearm you ever DROSED.

AFS is a historical database that keeps tracks of a firearm's record.
When the current owner sells/transfers a firearm that is in AFS, the transferee gets listed as the current owner and the transferor's info for that firearm gets moved to a previous owners file for that firearm.

A Notice of No Longer in Possession is entirely voluntary and simply updates who the new owner of the firearm is and moves the current owner of the firearm to be a previous owner of the firearm.
^If all of the required info or supporting documents are not with a submitted Notice of No Longer in Possession, then it does not get processed and there are no changes to the firearm's AFS record.

The AFS check for ammo transfers checks to see if the ammo transferee's current info matches an AFS record for a current owner.
If the transferee's info does not exactly match (address, etc) the current owner of an AFS record or if the transferee search comes back as not a current owner of an AFS record, then the AFS ammo check will get denied/rejected.
