    Unusual number of "holds"?

Got a call from Turner's today on a PPT that should have been clearing on Friday, apparently they got a "hold" notice from DOJ on it today....

Funny thing is I JUST picked up a retail purchase at a LGS a couple days ago, no problem, the PPTis a P365 the guy purchased late last year when all the new on roster guns hit, so no issues there.

The Turner's guy said he's seeing a LOT of thse pop up recently, and said worst case they release on "undetermined" @ 30 days... so that's good, I hope.

My money is on the DOJ not processing quickly because of all the "beat the tax" purchases, or they may have done a "software upgrade" that is wrongly flagging legitimate transfers. Either way, haven't had anything like this happen before, so I'll be crossing my fingers that it gets resolved properly one way or another....

It does make me curious if other FFL's are seeing more transfers not completing in a timely fashion?

It is a delay. There are three things that can trigger a delay. 1. You have a criminal history. 2. You have the same name as someone with a criminal history. 3. The gun has been reported stolen. It is highly unlikely there have been enough DROS lately to slow down the system. Most people are not buying right now because most places are collecting the tax now. People want to see if an injunction can stop the tax before they put their money in limbo. I have not had any delays lately.

Since you just picked up, my guess is the P365 is the issue. I hope to be wrong on that one. However, mistyped serial numbers happen. My partner once input the model number as the serial number and apparently other people do that too because that model number was reported as a lost or stolen gun as the serial number. The DOJ called to confirm and once we fixed the mistake, the delay was released.

Thanks for the info... since i JUST completed a retail DROS and picked up with no delay or issue, pretty sure it's not anything with my ID/name, and the P365 is a recently bought CA model, seller seemed fine, and Turner's said it was NOT an issue with reported stolen.... Today was supposed to be the 10 days on this PPT, I'll probably wait until next week to do a follow up, but as of now expect to be waiting another 20 days for release on undetermined. First time having an issue in a significant number of purchases and some sales, so I'm just trying to sort it out if I can.... I will check and see if a S/N was misread, but Turner's always triple checks the info like that, so seems unlikely. I'm still guessing it's SOMETHING at the DOJ, based on overall situation, but I guess I'll see how it works out!

Turners has no idea if it is stolen. Now, you do know what Turner's policy is on undetermined right? They are not going to deliver to you and by law they will have to return it to the seller.

I was told they will release on undetermined when they called me, so I expect them to honor that. I'll be following up Monday to confirm.

I no longer buy from BigBoxStores for this and a few other reasons.
Many years ago Sportman's Warehouse had a great deal on M&P Shield and M&P AR15
Had never had any issues so when they informed me they do not release on undetermined I thought no big deal.
Well they went to 30days and advised me I had two options.
Get my money back or try again.
I opted to try again paying for another DROS.
At day 7 was in Delay......day 15 got the Release.
From that time on will only do business with FFL that will release on undetermined.

Hope it works out for you OP

Turner's confirmed late yesterday that the DOJ got around to approving the transfer, so I'm GTG... I'm still guessing the DOJ got backed up with the new tax thing and was sending out "delayed" notices...

I also confirmed that they would have released on undetermined, didn't get into the details about how that would have worked, but I'm guessing since it was a PPT the process would be different, and it probably wouldn't hurt that i've used Turner's for a "few" PPT's and purchases along the way.
