How does one buy a gun from the Internet?

I actually have 3 questions:

1. Is www.budsgunshop.com a reliable website to buy guns from?

2. How does one buy a gun from the Internet? I've Googled this, and I'm not quite sure how it works. So I just find a FFL (a place or person that sells guns, right?) in my area and they do the paperwork and whatnot, is that right?

3. Which FFL in the South Bay area is the best/cheapest one (more specifically Torrance CA)?

Buds is a great place to deal with...I've bought a few firearms from them.

First you check the CA DOJ approved gun list. If it is on it you just pay and have it sent to your FFL of choice to do the DROS.

I know no FFL's in Torrance.

Consider the fees an FFL will charge to accept the firearm. I've seen some charge $100. And some as low as $35. This is on top of your standard DROS fees. You'll also be responsible for tax, if you're thinking you'll save on that by buying out of state. Accepting FFL will charge you. So after seeing a good internet price, you might pay about the same if not less for something you can hold before you buy.

I wouldn't mind paying more for an off-roster gun, and having it sent to an FFL that specializes in SSE, like EBRWorks here on Calguns. I think out of Thousand Oaks?

Yeah I've asked around in one particular store, it was $100+. I'm looking for 50-70 bucks to spend on the transfer itself.

The model I'm after is something I've never seen in gunstores, and the price according to Mossberg is $450 or something, give or take maybe $10. The website offers it for $340.

Gunbroker has some of the best deals, and some of the WORST deals on the planet. I bought a smoking deal once because the guy had a horrible picture, and had no history. But I called him AND called his FFL (although not required).

BUT - GB and other sites are rife with doofs who HATE CA, and will not sell to Ca residents. There is no legal reason, just ignorance.

But, again - make sure you check with your local FFL on their prices and will they accept a gun from a non-FFL. It has to ship to an FFL (fed law), but can be shipped by non-FFL or FFL.

It's not difficult.

One of the best gun deals I EVER got was from summitgunbrokers.com out of Missouri. Very small place, but the guy is just outstanding and ships for very low cost.... It was FUN!

So, yeah, don't overlook buying from out of state.

I've checked the second one, they charged a little too much for the transfer.

I bought a used pistol from out of state. Its ca legal so the seller shipped and my ffl accepted. I am doing the transfer and was slapped with $108 in transfer fee. I had no choice but to pay the man. Im doing research right now if I over paid. I was asked to pay tax for the price of the pistol plus shipping. Paid dealer transfer fee eventhough the seller sent it overnight thru fedex and is in fact a private individual.

You should know what the fees are in advance, if not, then you have not done your job.

Yes, you have to pay sales tax on the price of the firearm and the shipping. Complain to the BOE and your elected BOE Board member about that if you like as they changed their view, even though the law did not change.

If the firearm is shipped, then it is the same as any other dealer sale. I am not sure of why you seem to think that you should not have to pay a dealer transfer fee just because a private individual sent it. It is not a PPT which is fee limited since both people did not go to the same FFL.

I should have done my research first. I was told by my ffl that it will be dros fee and tax only. When the pistol came, i paid extra for the transfer. Just want to see if he did it right. Im not going make a big deal out of it. But thanks for the info

I found a pretty good one with a reasonable price (50 bucks for the transfer itself, plus 35 for the DROS). I think this is going to work :P

Atlantic firearms is real good also.
Note Your CA FFL is required by law to collect sales tax so don't count on that as a savings.
