    New DROS Delay Process...

Got this from a customer who was given a delay on the 8th day:

She [DOJ agent] informs that as of March 26 2012, per a new policy put into effect by her boss.
There can be a delay of up to another 30 days or more depending upon if they can find records that are now required per the new policy.

Not required by law, just by the new policy.
Not sure what to think about it. Although I didn't ask the reasons for the delay, I do wonder about the "records that are now required per the new policy".

I've known of people who remain on delay for a long period of time (over 30 days) and that status never changes until the purchaser ends up cancelling the transaction on their own.

Same here just the other day. I was contacted by a gal named Betty at DOJ, and she told me the same thing. It was on the 8th day also. I did get a proceed though on the 10th day so, who knows.

Interesting, but I'm betting they just can't keep up.

        That's a good thing, right?

There are several threads now that are referencing a "new rule" at the DOJ that is causing delays. Anyone in the "know" that can explain this new rule/policy?

          Thanks

I had a fellow who was delayed on either his 8th or 9th day back in DECEMBER. They kept it on delayed status until he cancelled it late last month.

You can't make this stuff up.

We really should have one of the right people try to get a straight answer from them on this. Too many delays attributed to this unknown "new policy".

Is it possible they are doing this to support their need for the 10 days? Thus using as "ammo" in the current and any potential lawsuits?

Sounds like the 2A powers that be need to be looking into this. This "policy" should be disclosed.

Here's how I think (TBD) I got it resolved.

Just got off the phone with DOJ regarding a delay on a customer of mine. They called me yesterday afternoon (day 9) and put a delay on the customers DROS. After the customer called them back they told him that it was something to do with his citizenship. He advised them he has been a full citizen since 1996 (org born in Mexico).

Today when I called DOJ they said it looks like every thing is good to go and has been resolved however they now have to wait for an e-mail from whom ever to change everything in their computer system and to expect an additional delay of 14-100+ days.

Apparently the DOJ told my customer that it was my screw up and that I didn't mark the correct boxes showing citizenship however when I reviewed his DROS form everything matches (citizenship shows C rather than F)..... this being my 1st Delay I've got to thank DOJ for their "wonderful" customer service lol

CGF is tracking the policy change. Read the thread http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=573028 .

This policy change is this.Basically, ANYTHING on your record that has something to do with any kind of physical violence must have deposition or else there will be a delay. All they care about is making sure you have no record of domestic violence. If you have any offenses,Id recommend you have them expunged as soon as possible even if its something you did as a juvenile. ALSO, if you have state license issues, such as suspensions or revokes, your DROS will also be delayed. This policy affects alot of people because before there wasnt an issue and now it is. The real downside is if they do uncover something that prevents you from buying a firearm, it could also affect you being able to keep the ones you already have. i advise you make sure your records are clean and if not, hire a lawyer for further actions. Owning guns are an investment and Im sure we all want to protect it.
