    Threaded barrel question?

If a pistol has a magazine block in it (not a bullet button, but a magazine block that is fixed into the gun and can not be removed without a tool) could that gun have a threaded barrel and not be considered an assault weapon in California as long as the magazine block is in the gun?

Would the magazine block fixed into place cause the handgun to operate as a single-shot pistol?

If so, it can legally have a threaded barrel on it.

Summary of threaded barrels + handguns:
Threaded barrel + semi-auto pistol that uses detachable magazines = illegal [PC 30515(a)(4)(A)]
Threaded barrel + semi-auto pistol that uses a fixed magazine = legal
    Threaded barrel + single-shot pistol = legal
    Threaded barrel + lever-action pistol = legal
    Threaded barrel + pump-action pistol = legal
    Threaded barrel + bolt-action pistol = legal
Threaded barrel + revolver = legal

The block is irrelevant. The not capable of accepting a detachable magazine is the key. So if you have a regular magazine or a block installed and it cannot be removed without the use of a tool, then it is legal to have a threaded barrel. Now the block clearly might exempt you from the roster so you can also DROS the handgun, but these are two separate issues.

I've had to explain this to a number of FFLs when trying to get pricequotes for installation of a brake on my T/C Encore Pistol. They just said they'd "Get back to me" about the price, and i've never heard from them again.

At least I've only run into one who still thinks T/C's contenders and encores are illegal.

I have my own threaded barrel question. Can a bolt action rifle have a threaded barrel, rifle in question being the Nemisis Arms Vanquish. Or would the muzzle break have to be fixed in place for a non LEO.

            It's perfectly legal.

If I wanted to get a FNP 45 Tactical via SSE, could I attach the thread cover permanently to the barrel?

Next we get into the definition of permanent, but would something like Rocksett work? Some sort of epoxy along the lines of JB weld? Or nothing short of a physical pin/weld?

Why not just purchase a non-threaded bbl to run in your FNP-45 Tactical? You would keep the value of your gun and be able to remove it for cleaning and maintenance. We made our customers purchase a EFK Firedragon non-threaded bbl to run in their FNP's. That keep everyone happy and legal. If they want to use the threaded bbl out of state, they could.

Ryan, I asked the same question a while back and got no real answer. They way I figure it, all of our customers are going to remove the mag block right away so play it on the se side.

Yeah, that thought hit me last night when I was thinking of adding a comp to a 1911 - If it is permanent, you could never remove the barrel.
