FFL won't respond to calls or emails

Hello all,

I am new to the board and was looking for some advice.

I made a purchase at the Cow Palace gun show on the 24th of April and got set up with an FFL at the show. I jumped through all the California hoops and assumed I had started the 10 day clock. The FFL told me he would contact me 2 days before I could pick up my new weapon so we could schedule a time to meet. I assumed that meant after 8 days I would hear from him.
on day 10 I called and emailed....no response. I have called and emailed a second time today, day 11 and again no response.

I understand the guy could be very busy due to the volume of transfers he is making from the gun show but seriously 3 days overdue on any communication seems excessive.

At what time do I start to worry that this guy is not legit and I should assume he has walked with my fees and gun?

I'm thinking if I don't hear back from him on the 3rd attempt that I contact the authorities and report it stolen.

Any advice, similar experiences, etc.?

Take a deep breath and be patient. Who knows? Maybe he had a family emergency or is just swamped with work. I'd give it a few more days and start asking around. No FFL is going to steal a few guns and loose his freedom.

Don't waste the authorities time yet, because it is not considered stolen. At the worst, it would be an embezzlement, and there are many hoops to jump thru to prove that.

At this time, you have a civil matter that you would have to take to small claims court.

You won't be able to get much help without naming the FFL, and I wouldn't do that yet. Give him time.

Like CSA said, he may be swamped.

Do you mean the 14th of April for the purchase date?

When you say you "called", was the phone # busy, or just rang, or you left a voicemail, or you hung up without leaving a message?

The scenario you describe is a little disturbing but I think it's a little early to start talking about a police report.

Does the FFL have a storefront?

Poor customer service isn't a crime, just wondering when I need to deal with it from another angle.
I don't plan to name the FFL here but I will provide my opinions on some of the business rating sites. If and when he ever delivers.

Yeah the 14th.

I have left polite voice messages twice and sent a couple of equally polite emails.

I don't want to post the name of the FFL here. If the situation gets significantly worse I may change my mind.

Not much more you can do outside of trying to contact him. If you can find his address, you can swing by and see him in person or leave a note on his door. If you google BATFE FFL list you should be able to figure out his physical address. That might get his attention.
