    INTERSTATE SHIP / TRANSFER

Im considering a trade for a G24 in Oregon. Im thinking that I will ship it to my cousin, who will handle the FTF, then ship the G24 to me.

Cous is willing to have my gun transfered into his name if needed.

    Any thoughts?

So, you are going to transfer your gun into cousin's name, have him receive the second gun into his name, then he will send the (new) gun to your FFL here and you'll take a transfer here?

Can't you just use a single FFL there (or here) for the transfer? It seems much less complicated, and likely less expensive.

The sale to my cousin was his idea to help end my chain of custody. Just a thought.

The main Problem I see, is that the G24 is off DOJ list. Does that matter in a ftf trade?

Yes - interstate requires the CA FFL for you as a CA resident; CA-FFL can't transfer an off-Roster handgun to you unless you are exempt from the Roster, or the gun is exempt or made exempt - these days it seems most often by the Single Shot Exemption (SSE - see sticky in handgun forum).

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

You are about to become a criminal.

Generally no firearm can be shipped across state lines unless to an FFL. The Glock 24 is not on the roster so if it is shipped to a CA dealer, he cannot DROS it to you in its factory original configuration. The FFL would have to make it single shot exempt.

So to simplify your life, make the trade, have the owner that has it right now ship it to a participating dealer that can single shot exempt it for you. Start your DROS as a transfer (it is not a PPT coming from out of state), come pick it up ten days later, after taking delivery, trade the single shot parts back in for the original parts.

I am set up to single shot G24s as I just DROSed a SSE G24 to myself a week or so ago.
