2nd form of residency for LEO

Would the valid current DL and his valid current LEO ID satisfy?

    Thanks!

    per the regs:

    2. A valid peace officer credential issued by a California law enforcement agency to an active, reserve, or retired peace officer.
    per the FAQ:

What proof of residency are peace officers required to provide to the firearms dealer?
Peace officers, including reserve and retired peace officers, may present valid credentials issued by a California law enforcement agency in lieu of the other required residency documentation. This consideration is given to peace officers who do not want to provide documentation of their residence address for security reasons and who otherwise do not object to having their credentials copied by the firearms dealer for inclusion with the DROS record.

    (PC section 12071)
I wonder how that works for the feds if the LEO does not actually provide proof of his residence, as required by the 4473?

A bit of a correction, there is NO second form of residency, only the PRIMARY form. CA does consider a CA DL or ID to be an acceptable proof of residency. While it is required to submit the DROS, it is ignored in terms of residency.

I asked a DOJ person about this and was told that a person could live in NV, but due to a job be required to have a CA DL, but the DL would have the NV address, so it would not be proof of CA residency. The problem with this concept is that the DL would have a NV address, so of course it would not be proof of CA residency.

The only good thing about the exemption is you don't need secondary proof of residency. It in no way protects the officer because if they put down anything on their 4473 other than what is on their CA ID/DL, then they will need a government issued document showing that 4473 address.

So if the officer wants to put their department address on the 4473, then they will need to show that is where they reside with a government issued document.

For PO Boxes I have manually changed the address and it has been ok with the inspector.

Ok, so I had a Federal LEO yesterday with a DL that had a PO box. He put his actual home address on the 4473 and I used that for the DROS as well. I have a copy of his department ID and a city utility bill that shows his home address. Good to go right?

I would say no unless his department ID has his residence address, but Wes seems to be the expert in this area.

The reason being is that there is no government document with the address for the Feds. You are find with the state. Read 4473 question 20b.

his city utility bill should cover him for both CA and federal PoR since it is a .gov-issued document with his current address on it.

A city utility bill if actually from the city is a government issued document.

Sorry, I missed that it might be a city (aka government) document.
