    Brain Fart

When doing a DROS, I scanned the Drivers licensed which has an old address. Do I update the address with the correct one or leave what was auto populated from the DL? Yes I know to get proof of residence for both state and feds.

I called DOJ and they said to leave it as scanned from the DL, which we now do unless it's a PO Box.

Strange, although not surprising, I was told to update it to the correct address.

If you are not going to correct the address when it has changed, I can't see why you would change it when it is a PO Box. It should either be what is on the ID or the correct address.

If a PO Box is in the field when you submit, a warning pops up that a PO Box is not allowed.

That is a good reason to change it :-).

I looked at the DROS form and I would say that you always need to change it based on what you are signing since you are stating that everything is accurate. If the address has changed, then it is not accurate.

I had one like this the other day, DL was current, but address was different( customer moved, he had a dmv change of address with him), And the mag strip was wore the hell out. So I just entered the fields with the new address manually, photocopied the DL, and attached two forms of POR for the new address.

BTW, there is no second POR required, only the first, which does not include the ID for CA. I talked to the DOJ about that and why the ID was not acceptable for POR and was told it was because there are people who live in NV, but are required to have a CA DL, so it has their NV address on it. It really is not an issue since in that example it does not have a CA address on it, so it could never be used for POR for CA. In other words, the logic of it escapes them.

It never mentions a second proof, only the first, but says

Current, government-issued license, permit, or registration, other than a CA Driver License or CA Identification Card, that has a specified expiration date or period of validity. The license, permit, or registration must bear the individual's name and either of the following:

              1. The individual's current residential address as declared on the Dealer's Record of Sale (DROS) form

              or
              2. The individual's address as it appears on his or her California Driver License or California Identification Card, or change of address attachment thereto.
Notice item 1, which is the DROS form. Item 2 really does not matter if the DROS always has the accurate address, as it should.

Thanks guys, I typed in the correct address, correct being the address he lives at and listed on the 4473 and DROS forms. The reason I ask is the DROS was kicked back to me stating the records did not match the DMV info. Wouldn’t you know this guy has been a practice in self control for me. He is not bad or anything, just does not want to do any work. Since it is a simple transfer I kick everything back to him telling him the reason he got a deal on my transfer fees is he has to do the work.

I am not sure of what to say. I have corrected the address and not had a problem. I typed in the wrong address (lien address) and it seems to have gone through. The DOJ said that you could not correct that and to just cross it out and write the correct address.

I did have one DMV reject and I am not sure of what the deal is with that.

I am typing in the new address, if it doesnt match the DL on the DROS. I am assuming that is correct, and then getting another gov doc to prove the new address.

                    Am I ok doing that?
