It is off list, probably because it's missing one of the BS features CA now requires on all new pistols sold.

Any place that does the Single Shot Exemption should be able to get you one, as they are very popular.

The question "is the Ruger 380 legal in CA?" doesn't really ask anything, because actions are forbidden by law, not objects. A better question would be, "Is it legal for me to purchase a Ruger 380 auto from a dealer in CA?" To which, the answer would be, "No, unless that dealer converted it to a single shot to make it exempt from the roster, then it would be perfectly legal for you to buy that same gun in a Single Shot Exempt configuration, and subsequently convert it back to semi-auto."

So, legal to own: Yes. Legal to buy new from a dealer: No. Able to convert to Single Shot so as to be exempt from the roster: Yes.

Your point is important, but if you want to be accurate:

The correct answer would be: Only if the buyer is exempt from the list. It is legal for a LEO to buy one new from a dealer.

The list is there for you to look at for yourself.
