Transfer question- my brother is going to Germany

Sorry if this has already been covered- I've tried searching but I still have some questions.

My older brother is in the Army and he is currently stationed at Ft. Belvoir, VA. He has just received orders sending him to Germany for the next 3-4 years. After researching the German gun laws he has decided not to take his guns with him (a .30-06, Remington 870, and Steyr S-A1). My brother would like to send his guns to me to store in my safe while he's overseas- this is a loan, I am not buying them from him. My brother is planning to take the guns to the FFL on post and have them ship the guns to an FFL on my side. I'm wondering what I will need to do on my end. I am particularly concerned about the Steyr M40-A1 since it rolled off the handgun roster last year. I'm not sure if it matters but my brother had the Steyr registered here in CA a few years ago while he was stationed at Travis AFB. I do not have my HSC yet so I'm sure I will need to get one. I'm planning on going to the local gun shop this weekend to talk to them but I was hoping to know what I need to do before I talk to the shop.

    Cheers!

You might look into having him ship the firearms to himself and just storing the boxes unopened or have him fly out and store them here, rather than going through two FFLs.

If the Steyr S-A1 is not on the certified list, you can't transfer it unless it is exempt, such as an intrafamilial transfer.

Thanks for the response. Sounds like it may be better to have my brother transfer the guns to my dad.
