Shipping my long gun out of state and recieving it back, FFL required?

I recently shipped off a part of my shotguns trigger group to have work done. Upon receiving it back the gun is not functioning as it should. The person who did the work offered that I ship the whole shotgun to him and he could tune it. I asked and he said I could ship to him and he could ship it straight back to me. He is reputable and I'm not worried about sending the complete firearm to him, but is this correct that no FFL would need to be involved? And if an FFL does need to be involved, what is the standard fee for something like that?
    Thanks,
    ed.

I know, I stressed about this also. The last gun went to Remington and back to me no problems. I ship overnight and usually runs about $60. oh well
Got to go in the shipping box or original purchase box. A plastic foam lined rifle case from Big 5 would work, wrapped in cardboard and the bejesus taped out of it
I have used both USPS signed certified receipt, and also UPS
No need for FFL. Insure it for replacement value

PS: overnight is personal preference. To get through the system before the thieves get it

Does it have to be shipped overnight? I know thats a rule for handguns, but is that just personal preference or regulation?

If he is a FFL, you are covered. Rifles can go ground.

If you want to transfer a firearm to a resident of another State then Federal law requires the transfer to go through an FFL.

So, if I go thru a FFL in Oregon, then Im only breaking CA laws.

If you ship to a FFL in Oregon, you are not breaking any laws.

But, the other half of this problem, is bringing in the G24.
I guess that it will have to be shipped from a ffl in Oregon, to a SSE capable FFL in CA?
