    DROS with a non-CA Address

Have you ever ran a DROS on a buyer or seller that did not have a CA address? The California DMW will print non-CA addresses on a CA ID.

Perhaps someone can help me understand a bit more about the DROS system. I assume you can either

    1. Swipe a CA ID/DL or MIL and the information will populate
    2. Manually enter the information into the system
With military personal, what address is entered?

Will the DROS system accept a non-CA address? Even if the non-CA address in printed on a CA ID?

Trying to get some real world feedback from dealers who have been successful or denied when a non-CA address was run through a DROS.

    Any information is much appreciated.

      Hehe. Ohhhh reallly?

True for both a handgun and LG DROS?

What address does a MIL person use? Address of the base in which they are stationed?

I saw this once and if freaked me out. I think they had secondary proof of residency that showed that wasn't their address, but the CA ID/DL was definitely out of state and it sent my head spinning.

If they have a CA ID/DL, but their address is out of state, they cannot purchase firearms because they are not a CA resident. If they put a CA address on their 4473 and have a government issued document for long guns and/or utility bill/government document with expiration for handguns, then you can still run them and just need to edit the address in DROS.

They use their address that they are at in California.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

I processed a transaction like this from a gun show some time ago. The individual was military though, so I used the military ID with orders as the primary...although it really brought up some interesting questions at the time. I never really followed up on it as it has only come up once.

If they want to sell a gun and their address on the ID is from out of State, then that is how the transaction must be processed...as being received from out of State...unless they have military ID with orders of course.

I don't know under what other circumstances DMV will put out-of-State addresses on their ID besides military???
