    Repairs and customizing.

I know I do not need an ffl to deal in parts, but if I wanted to open a repairs and customizing shop would i need an ffl even if i dont plan on selling firearms? Any info would be great.

Yes you would if you plan on being in possession of firearms other then your own for longer then I believe 48 hours you are suppose to legally report it to DOJ meaning u would have to be a FFL dealer

While I am not sure, I had heard that if the customer leaves the firearm, you need a FFL. You can do work if the customer is still there without a FFL.

thanks so much for the info. I am a certified master gunsmith and I love gunsmithing. Im just afraid my city of residence wont let me do what im trying to. I guess its time to step up and get down to city hall to find out if getting an ffl is even worth trying for in my city. any info on the direction to move this forward would be helpful as well.

Im in oakland. Duracoating is basic. you could probably do it yourself. What type of weapons do you need coated? Brownells.com has duracoat kits with full instruction.

I think a 07 is to make guns a 01 is good to repair guns if they are left without owner present. Even if you don't plan to sell guns. To the best of my knowledge.

^ Correct. An 07 to build or manufacture, or an 01 to sell or work on a firearm without the customer present.
