    Custom work question...

    Hi, FFLs -

I have a Wilson Classic Rimfire (basically, a Wilson 1911 in a .22) and I am considering getting a quote from Wilson to have them fit a .38 super slide/barrel/etc to my frame. So basically, I'd send them my frame and they would send it back built up as a .38 super. I know when it is sent back it must be received by an FFL and go through DROS again, but my question is: will this customized gun - on the original frame with the original serial number which is already registered to me, but now with a 38 super slide/barrel - be permissible for me to legally receive? (Obviously it won't have any inherently illegal modifications, e.g. threaded barrel).

Thank you so much for any information you are willing to provide!

It's your gun. Who told you it has to come back through an FFL?

I had heard that a handgun can never be shipped directly to a non-FFL in California (even in cases of warranty work)... Is that not the case?

That's not the case if it's already your gun. If you were purchasing it then that would be a different story, but it's already registered to you.
