    COE questions

After years of having an 03 FFL, I finally decided to apply for a COE but I have a few questions that I have not been able to find answers for.

    1. Is there a fee for first time application for a COE that must be mailed with the application?
    - The instructions for the form don't say, other than "You must pay the Live Scan operator a $54 DOJ fingerprint processing and BOF eligibility processing fee...". It does specify to include a $22.00 COE renewal fee when renewing. I know the Wiki link says to send a check for $22 for the first application but was wondering if the info was incorrect or outdated.

    2. Do I need to / should I include a copy of my 03 FFL with the application?

Live Scan is done, just waiting to mail the application, can't get ahold of anyone at the BOF.

    Any help would be appreciated.

I simply sent in the application and a check for $22, I think that was the
amount for the original application. I recently renewed by sending in the
renewal application, with the fee, the live scan is not requried for renewal.
I did not send in a copy of my 03FFL.

FYI, current wait for a COE application (new) is 3 to 4 months. I am going to try the renewal ave since I have had a FFL before.

Get the newest application and follow the instructions.

When I applied, it was about $70 to the Livescan operator and I sent a check for $22 with the application.
About 6 months later, reports were coming in that the Livescan operator was collecting the $22 and the only thing you send to the DOJ is the application.

Renewal is $22, 100% by mail, no need for a new Livescan.

Thanks for the replies. I'm using revision 09/2010 off the states web site and heading to the post office now.

Anyone know who to contact to get the Calgun wiki page updated?

The lives an operator now collects all of the fees. Once the lives an is done, you simply mail in the application.

COE is totally separate from having the FFL and a copy of your FFL is not needed.

Librarian can do the updates to the wiki.

The form does not say, but does say for renewals that you need to send in a check. A bit confusing, but that is the government.

                Wiki has been updated.

With a new application no additional check is required. The livescan operator forwards the DOJ their share of the fees.

In the renewal process you do not need a new livescan, so a $22 processing fee must accompany the renewal paperwork.

IIRC, it was about 4 weeks for both my renewal and initial certificate to arrive.

How long ago was that? I just spoke with them, and they say now 3 to 4 months for new cert.

I am 6 weeks into the wait and according to the message they havent even gotten to my week of applications received.

You mean the Certification of Compliance?

Much confusion on that one, but it does NOT apply to US citizens or resident aliens (green card).
All you need for the 03FFL application is the application.
