FFL Safe requirement?

I am gathering the pieces together to start my FFL 01 process. I have searched most of this topic here and other spots but there is not any details about what type safe is required as an FFL 01. Maybe there is none? But I want to make sure I drop my funds on what I need. Any info on this would be great!

PC 26890 doesn't really say -

(a) Except as provided in subdivisions (b) and (c) of
Section 26805, any time when the licensee is not open for business,
all inventory firearms shall be stored in the licensed location. All
firearms shall be secured using one of the following methods as to
each particular firearm:
(1) Store the firearm in a secure facility that is a part of, or
that constitutes, the licensee's business premises.
(2) Secure the firearm with a hardened steel rod or cable of at
least one-eighth inch in diameter through the trigger guard of the
firearm. The steel rod or cable shall be secured with a hardened
steel lock that has a shackle. The lock and shackle shall be
protected or shielded from the use of a boltcutter and the rod or
cable shall be anchored in a manner that prevents the removal of the
firearm from the premises.
(3) Store the firearm in a locked fireproof safe or vault in the
licensee's business premises.

Depends on what you can afford, and maybe what your insuror will require.

Also, you are not required to have a safe prior to applying for your FFL.
I would not spend the money before you get approved, that way if for any reason, you are held up in the process, you did not spend a bunch of money up front.

You can wait on the city license, gun safe, DBA/Resller permit.
You have 30 days after you are issued your FFL to get all of that stuff together.

Not necessarily.

In my case, I simply went down the the city and spoke with the planning department about a home occupation permit, which my city requires to be able to do business out of my home. I explained to them the very nature of my (proposed) business, and obtained a preliminary document (the home occupation permit application) which was stamped "exempt" which means that I was not going to be hampered by, or required to jump through any additional hoops to obtain said license.

I elected to wait on paying the fees for the license until after I received approval from BATFE in case they denied me for any reason.

There are no refunds on the fees paid for a business license in my city, but if I were to be denied the FFL, I would get my FFL permit fees back, and in that scenario, I would not have foolishly paid for a business license before I obtained the FFL.

The OP's city may operate differently than mine? If so, then yes I guess it makes sense to pay the city fees first. Just sharing personal experience.
