    Form 4473

    Hello

Just like to say thanks to all who have helped me in the past. Question, Do I write anything (NICS Number) on the 4473? My ATF inspector told me to file them numerically but if I am using DROS what do I do. I called the DOJ they said dont worry about the 4473.

    Anyone please clarify?

There are three ways to store 4473s. Alphabetically, chronologically, or by control number.

Depending on who asks, I either use a control number or I file them chronologicially.

For a control number, I use my Quickbooks POS sales receipt number. The only slight problem with that is I might sell a box of ammo between two guns so there is gap in the sequence. I could not find anything in the US code that prohibits that, but if and when my auditor's suprevisor brought that up, I simply said I store them in chronological order. Even though the the control numbers are in sequence with gaps, they are always in chronological order.

I find that is the easiest way because I can put those control numbers in the A&D book and when I search my A&D book by serial number and find a gun, I can go right to the correct 4473 and right to the sales receipt as well.

I file numerically by A & D Acquisition number which Corresponds to the Number I write on the upper right hand box on the front page of the 4473. These numbers also correspond to my Online A & D system that I can search by any method. Works like a charm.

You do write the DROS number or NICS number (non-CA) on the 4473 in 21b.

As states by others, you can file them in one of three means, which has nothing to do with the DROS number.

I don't understand your statement about the DOJ saying to not worry about the 4473. The 4473 is a Federal document and does not really apply to the DOJ, but they should not be saying anything with respect what you need to do or not do with regards to Federal regulations.

Perhaps I am not understanding what you are saying. If you received multiple non-handguns firearms from multiple sources, but submitted under one DROS and one 4473, what A&D number would you use?
