    Pistol reg question

I did the usual search and turned up the usual goose egg.
Imy question is I have made the purchase of a lower that I 'want' marked pistol just for the sake of avoided any hassles. I can still put the upper on an 80 if and when the time comes...
So, what I need to know is I know there is something with a 'zero sled" that I don't completely understand yet but thought it was done at the FFL at time of transfer. The biz I bought the lower from called me and ran it down to me about the sled thing and wanted to know if I wanted them to give me a quote on the build out on it before they shipped. That most FFL's wont' accept it without it if a pistol config.

May I get some enlightenment on the process itslef so I have a beter understanding and then a head's up on the rest as far as the build out of the lower before the shipping...?

    thank you

Due to the approved list for handgun sales, in order for an AR reciever to be DROS'd as a "handgun", it must be a complete dimesionally compliant single-shot pistol (6" or greater barrel length & 10.5" or greater overall length).

A reciever by itself can not be DROS'd as a "handgun", unless the transfer is done via PPT, LEO sale or out-of-state intra-familial gift.

A maglock and a 0 round magazine is used to make an AR pistol into a single-shot pistol.

Your post is a bit confusing, but If you are not a LEO, you cannot DROS an AR lower as a pistol in California. It would need to be a complete, dimensionally compliant firearm with a 0 round sled and bullet button and remain compliant throughout the DROS period. Having the lower marked "pistol" is irrelevant and does nothing to establish it's status.

So,.... if i have the dealer that I am purchasing the lower from install the 0 rd sled and bb, and I then place an upper onto that at the FFL that I have the lower transfered to, then it can be dros'd legally as a pistol?
My aim is not to have any hassles with a pistol upper on the lower it is reg'd to.

Will it be just as easy to have the dealer install the 0sled and I can do the BB or have them do that as well, or do they actually 'have' to do it before shipping. I'm so corn fused...
Why don't they make this a little harder.... jeshhhhh.... anyway. please let me know.
Yes I do know if I just take an 80% and...... etc...
been there and doing it again...
thank you but I need to know the ropes around this situation please...

The lower you are purchasing can never have been transferred before to an individual in California. It must be "virgin". The receiving dealer would have to be an 07 FFL and he would have to put the lower through his manufacturing book and build a complete firearm. A regular 01 FFL cannot do this.

I need to pin a mag and fab my own zero sled. The dealer selling me the lower want 40 buks for the sled. I'll buy two rebuild kits before I pay that for a plug. I want to be clear on that as well. Where can I ask on CG for direction on that? also to get a cheap mag to pin or weld?
thanks for the direction and help again.
