    ATF Memo

OK, by now we've all seen the ATF "memo" about medical marijuana. Have any of you actually gotten the notice through official channels?

I don't see it on the ATF website and haven't been officially notified. What am I missing here?

    Just curious.

Ah so, press release. Thanks, I didn't look there. Not the "normal" channel to notify FFLs but I guess it works.

I am not quite sure how having a marijuana card actually makes you a user or even addicted to it.

Since no one has ever told me about a marijuana card before, I simply will continue not to worry about it. Putting signs up would just make them talk about it and incriminate themselves.

Being in Mendocino county, the subject can come up more often than you think. I suppose, maybe, that is why the ATF released the news as a press release...to give the general public a heads-up on keeping their mouths shut.

Hmmm, so if one were to see how easy it is to get a medical card, to document that it is a scam, that means that you actually use it? If you go to a country where it is legal, does that mean you lose your right for a firearm when you get back?

It is all theory for me since I don't use drugs, not even legal ones including caffeine, but it seems like a stretch in their position. I will also say that from some of the people I know who have abused it, there is a negative affect and perhaps it is a good thing, but it seems like you don't have to even be proven guilty of anything.

Amazing. So how am I, a licensed dealer suppose to stay on top of all these changes and notices. I never received anything and was completely unaware of the issue until I saw this posting.

That said, the medical mj thing IMO should have been issued as a ruling or open letter, and not just a press release.

There are many laws, rules and requirements which are difficult to impossible to follow everything, so you have to do the best you can, such as signing up for the newsletters, reading this forum is also helpful as well. You need to be aware of State and Federal law, including any local laws and sales tax issues.

To be honest, it is easier to keep up with the rules than to start clean and try to learn everything. I am not sure of how a person who gets a FFL today can really figure everything out.

Thanks for the info, I had no idea this was available to me.
