My long time friend of 15 years is getting married. As his best-man I found it fitting that I should give him a handgun(I know awesome right). We've gone testing and my friend decided on a Glock 17.

Here lies the question.

I'm purchasing the Glock out of state, can I...

A) Buy the Glock and have it shipped to my FFL, then have my friend fill out the DROS and take ownership?

or

B) Ship to FFL, fill out DROS in my name, then do a PPT and have him take ownership?

I would like to avoid as much paperwork/fees as possible, what is the best solution?

You can buy it and have it sent to the FFL. However, check with the FFL and make sure they are comfortable with this. As long he is the actual person taking possession you are legal even though some FFLs will erroneously believe it is a straw purchase.

Hey thanks a lot, Just wanted to be sure it was on the legal side of things. I can see how it could be misconstrued to be a straw purchase but he'll be the one registering and in possession of it. I'll run it past my FFL before I order make sure he's ok with the transaction(I've purchase guns through him before so it's not like I'm just some random guy coming up with a scheme to get a gun). I really didn't want to go through option B since it makes it a 20 day wait and creates unnecessary fees.

Either way is legal, but as said, it can be a concern since it could look like a straw purchase, but isn't as long as everything is explained and understood.

It is more expensive and takes longer if you do the DROS first (over 20 days of waiting period).
