    11 day wait????

This is not the biggest deal in the world, but still highly annoying. Can a FFL or a shop make you wait an extra day past the law required 10 day wait period? If so, why would they do such a thing? I am completely against the whole wait period, but suck it up because it is the law. Now to have a shop say I have to wait an extra day to pick up my gun? It seems the shop is supporting more restrictions on gun ownership, and I think is down right ridiculous! What re your thoughts on the matter. Is this a common practice?

The FFL is just trying to avoid a violation of the 10 day wait period (10 24 hour periods). It is getting more and more common. No biggy, just one more day.

It does suck but from what I understand and the way it was explained to me is yes the 10 24hr but also depending on when (what time) the shop starts to DROS will determine what date AND time you can pick the weapon up. So if the ffl does the dros at 3:45 on the 10th day it has to be later than 3:45 but if they do it after closing u have to wait another day. I could be wrong but that's how it was explained to me. Hope that helps and if I'm wrong I hope someone will correct it.

Yeah the shop started the dros at 10 o'clock on the 19th so pick up normally would be 10 o'clock am on the 29th. It's not the biggest deal but one day is still more day.

Just so that they don't have you breathing down thier necks 4 hours before your new gun is released.

That's silly, why would I be breathing down their neck 4 hours before. If they tell me 10am then I show up at 10am. Simple, no need for an extra day.

I'm pretty sure the limit is a minimum of 10 full days, but there is no maximum that FFLs are held to past that.

To my knowledge, Big 5 has an 11 day wait policy throughout California. I recently bought a rifle through Davidson's and the owner of the shop that I was going through ended up making me wait 15 days until he got around to picking it up from some shipping outlet. Lame, and it pissed me off, but I'm pretty sure it was legal.

Sure, make it 12 days to really be sure, or 20 so everyone gets a chance to shoot it before it is picked up.

It's bs. I don't frequent FFL's who can't count without taking their shoes off.

You might, But Billy who is a friend of Johnny down at the gun store, might just ask his old pal to cheat by a few hours so he can catch the range before it closes. Something bad happens at the range, Johnny's boss loses his gun shop in a lawsuit and is out of business for ever.

Yeah, I know, a little over played but thats just my opinion.

One would think, since the average gunshop employee seems to have a little Napoleon in him, that they would LOVE telling someone to pound sand and wait..........if they actually noted at the start of DROS when the ten days ends.

Some of this might have to do with a batch filing of DROS at the end of day instead of at the time of the original transaction.

Vote with your wallet and don't use stores that make you wait longer than required, within reason. If you start your ten days on a Wednesday at my shop, your ten days are going to be up on a Saturday when I am closed. So you will have to wait 11 days until Sunday to pick it up.

So other than being closed on the day of pick up, you can pick up your gun 14401 minutes after start at our shop.
www.tenpercentfirearms.com was open from 2005 until 2018. I now own Westside Arms.

The common misconception is it is a 10 day wait. It is actually counted in 10 24 hour periods. 11 days just makes it fail safe for the dealer.

I have never heard a FFL who knows his business refer to it otherwise.
