    Out of state FFL

So here's my scenario hopefully someone can offer some insight.

I want a revolver from an Arizona resident, its on the DOJ approved handgun list, so no problem there. However, it turns out he has an FFL and does not want to go through the hassle of the paperwork and being registered with the CA DOJ to get approval to ship the revolver to my FFL and I cant blame him for that.

My question is if he brings the revolver in to the state can we go to a CA FFL and do the transfer there without him having to register with the DOJ as an FFL, or is it a no go due to the fact he has an FFL?

First off, even while it is annoying, it is easy to sign up and get the letter. It should not take more than 5 minutes, 10 minutes if you are a slow typist or don't have all the information in front of you.

Is the firearm coming from his business or is it a personal firearm? If it is a personal firearm, it might be ok for him to bring it. If he does bring it, there is no way the FFL is going to know that he is a FFL and it will be logged as coming from a private party, not a business with the FFL number.

I suspect that it would be viewed that he should get the letter since he is an out of state FFL.

Thanks for the response, I personally think it has more to do with the "big brother" aspect of the DOJ having his info. My FFL, straight line tactical (which went above and beyond even offering to walk him through the entire process if he called, and I give them big props). I and my FFL originally thought he was a private citizen and I got my hopes up

It's very frustrating to find 5" 625 revolvers, have it actually be on the approved list, and no one out of state will sell them to CA.

You can also use a middleman FFL (non-CA FFL) to accept the firearm and then re-ship it.

We've done this before for folks, it's no big deal.
