    ppt question

How do you know when doing a ppt the gun you're buying is in the guys name? I would hate to hand over the money and do the transfer and find out the gun is not registered or stolen a few days later.

    You don't.

Not registered shouldn't be a problem. Stolen certainly will be.

Sign a contract with the seller first if you don't trust everything will work out. At least you will have something to fall back on in small claims court.

You can make an agreement with the seller and see if the FFL will hold the money in escrow until the firearm is delivered (much like a consignment). I am doing that right now with a firearm and have done it in the past.

FWIW, people don't usually willingly offer up their DL and information to do a PPT if they think/know what they are selling is hot. I have been in this business a loing time and I have never had a handgun in a PPT come up hot. It just doesn't really happen....

          Cheers!
