It is up to the store. If it were me, I would call the factory and ask if they really meant to send it to me. If they said yes, then I would have them generate me a CFLC number and just have the pistol brought over to me and sign it in from the manufacturer.A police officer buys a pistol non rostered straight from factory had chiefs letter.Instead of the factory sending it to The retail store he requested it to go to for transfer. They sent it directly to the police station. Now the retail store says to send bacjk and have it shipped to them or they cant DROS IT.Can he bring it in and I can Dros it or does it have to come from the factory to me.(does he need to send back or bring it directly to me)need answer for CA doj and Feds thanks
If the store says they want it shipped from the manufacturer and they won't accept it from the police officer, then that is what you have to do. The law kind of supports it being done this way, but sometimes it helps to use a little common sense and realize mistakes happen and there are easy fixes and hard fixes.
I have accidentally sent lowers to the customer and uppers to the FFL. Thankfully the customer and FFL were cool and simply did a swap. Yeah I know I messed up, but it was an easy fix.www.tenpercentfirearms.com was open from 2005 until 2018. I now own Westside Arms. -
Why not just receive it from the police station? The manufacturer would have logged it to where the shipped it, so if the FFL just picks it up from there, the bound book will be off for the manufacturer. Since the police are not a FFL, there would not be a CFLC letter required.Kemasa.

Good idea. There is nothing that says the FFL can't just directly receive the firearm from the police department. The officer simply brings it in and says sign this in from my department. Then start a DROS like a transfer and done. Why not just receive it from the police station? I only wonder if it is legal to ship firearms directly to a police station over state lines? It doesn't matter to me if I were the FFL in the transaction.www.tenpercentfirearms.com was open from 2005 until 2018. I now own Westside Arms.Comment

I think that firearms can be shipped to the police, but as you say, that is not the FFL's problem. The FFL could pick it up, which might be better than someone dropping it off.Kemasa.

Seem like an easy fix.....but that depends on the FFL that you are going to use...
Yes many types of arms can be sent directly to the department.....not a federal issue...don't see a state issue in the dept sending or delivery to ffl...Last edited by INDABZ; 09-07-2011, 4:21 PM.Comment
