inherited a gun how to make it legal

cant find a firm answer on this qs so the qs is my grandpa passed a way a few years back and i recentlly found a revoler in his stuff was wondering since im 22 yrs old and can legally own a handgun now what must i do to make it legal because im not trying to get arrested or have it taken from me so any help would be greatlly appreciated
Laws that forbid the carrying of arms... disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man. Jefferson's "Commonplace Book," 1774_1776, quoting from On Crimes and Punishment, by criminologist Cesare Beccaria, 1764

Who is it who currently owns his 'stuff'? Grandmother? Estate of grandfather? Your mother or father?

You're 21; that covers the worst part. You need a Handgun Safety Certificate to receive a handgun in a transfer.

Whoever owns it now must be convinced to give or sell it to you. How that person is related to you probably determines the easiest path.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!
