BATF Compliance Inspection

I had my lastest inspection last week. I passed without any issues. The agent told me to expect another inspection within a year. The reason is the new BATF requirement for reporting sales of two or more centerfire semi-automatic rifle of .223 or larger caliber. The sale must be reported if the rifles are purchased within a five day period and have detachable magazines.

Interesting. My local shop has been having some issues. Can't quite put my finger on it, but somethings up.

Yeah good luck with that BATFE. My agent told me she wouldn't see my for three years because they are so busy and they keep taking away more and more agents.

So now they expect to come around and inspect us more often and take all of that extra time to look for these sales with the short staff they have now?

Right.

Either way, I am always ready for an audit, so no biggie.

Actually in hind sight, I wonder if the audit didn't go as well as they claim and that is why they are coming back.

By LAW atf can only come 1 time in a 12 month period unless it is for a criminal investigation. Compliance inspections are limited, and yes the inspection officer pool is shrinking

3.5 years and no inspection yet.....DOJ only once.

Remember the Q&A, that was not sent out with the letter, claims that a BB rifle is considered "detachable", contrary to the letter that was sent out in Dec. 2010, and has to be reported. This could be an issue.
