    4473 abbreviations/eForm

I know of an FFL (not me) that was audited in the last week and was violated for allowing abbreviation on 4473 question 13, State of Residence.

I have been using the eForm 4473 since day one. The software ONLY allows the client to enter a State abbreviation and all of my 4473s are abbreviated in this field. WTF?

The agent also told him that ATF would be phasing out usage of the eForm version of the 4473. Anyone else hear about this?

The 4473 specifically says postal abbreviations are acceptable right on it.

Yes it does. The dealer should have pointed that out to the auditors and when the final copy comes in, should definitely not sign it until that is pointed out and they remove the violation.

In my last audit, the only issue with abbreaviations was with the county. I live is San Luis Obispo Co. and alot of folks use "SLO". The auditors comment was, "make sure that your buyers do not abbreaviate this." He never said a word about "CA." or "Cailf."

Yeah when you SLOers come over my way or the LA County guys come up I usually have to remind them about that. We keep it simple over here in Kern County.
