    Drosing a shotgun

I purchased a shotgun and have done the paperwork. When I pick the shotgun up do I need to bring a gun lock or will my lockable Plano rifle/shotgun case cover the lockable case rule.

    Thanks in advance,

Your locking case is not a CA approved FSD.

You are better off calling your dealer and asking them what they require.

Well, I wonder what Big5 will do if you don't bring the lock back with you :-).

I would not suggest that. Some people/places don't have a sense of humor and it might annoy them and cause you problems.

It would be interesting to see what they would do as you need the lock at the time of pickup, so they should have just kept the lock with the firearm, but sometimes it is best to not know :-).

Well, I would park far off campus due to some of the stories I have heard or try to pick it up another time where you can go home first, but I know it is hard to wait.

Long gun.... California safe affidavit is GTG.

I was in Big 5 this morning and the guy in front bought a shot gun. He didn't buy a lock he just paid for it and left.
They did say he had to put the gun in the car and come back if he wanted shells lol. I did notice all the guns had a trigger lock so maybe they come with it invalidating the need to purchase one..

I haven't picked up mine yet so I'm not sure if all guns come with the trigger lock.. I thought they put it on every gun..

Federal law says that all handguns shall be provided with a lock.
California says that all firearms shall be sold with a lock purchased within 30 days, or the buyer have a qualified safe.

You do not need a lock if you have a safe that is large enough to house the gun IF you are buying a long gun. If the guy in front of you did a cash and carry, he was likely holding a C&R and COE, and the shotgun was over 50 years old. Otherwise, he would have needed to wait 10 days.

IF the seller installs trigger locks and sells them with the gun, then that qualifies under federal and state law... but if it is a long gun and if you have a qualified safe, you do not need to buy a lock.
Handguns must always be transferred with a lock per federal law (fed does not accept the California safe affidavit).
