    HSC instructor

I know a lot of, law abiding, people who would like to purchase a handgun for home protection and a carry side arm for hunting but cannot take the HSC test because of the language barrier. I went with a couple of my uncles to the local gun shops to translate for them. The word has gotten out and more people(friends of friends and other relatives) are asking me to go with them, for the same reason. To make this easier I was thinking of becoming an HSC instructor so I can give the test orally at my families place of business. I've looked over PC12071(b)(8) and 12804(j) and the application. It seems like it'll be doable for me. My question now is where can I take the DOJ Instructor Certification training and certification? I'm a California guard and have an exposed firearm card. I'm also an approved CCW carrier(I'm still in the process of acquiring it but am approved from SSD) and have taken the CCW training. The instructor for my CCW/exposed firearm training is also NRA certified so can I go through him or is there an specific instructor should I go through.

    Thanks in advance

Is the barrier because of a different languuage? If so, you can get it the test booklet in Spanish at this time. They send them with the regular ones if you ask for them. In my aream it is a good idea. (central Cal.) I'm not sure about other languages. Check your local area larger gun shops for HSC certification classes, or call DOJ and see if they know. If all else fails, call some gun stores in your area and ask the people qualified where they got theirs. Good luck to you.

No not Spanish. PC12804 "(a) The department shall develop an instruction manual in English and in Spanish by October 1, 2002." The language is Hmong. I just wanted to ask on the forum before going into a gun shop and ask. I don't want them to feel like I'm taking a little of their business or competing with them. But I'll give DOJ a call, even though I have a strong feeling they're not going to be able to answer my question.

No one is going to care much that you are doing HSC tests.

Here is where you can get certified.

www.tenpercentfirearms.com was open from 2005 until 2018. I now own Westside Arms.

The tough part may be actually getting the HS cards from DOJ. I have had some on order for a month. Other FFLs I know are having the same issue.

The thing is that you have to prepay for a packet of hsc cards. So if you don't need that many, you may be stuck with some cards you don't use.

Yep, $150 for ten. You would think for that price that they would be quick to ship them...

...oh wait, California is flat broke.

I'm pretty sure I can give about 40 test a year. The main problem is what EBR Works mentioned and that's if I can get them.

When I needed my HSC Instructor card 3 years ago, I could not get the training anywhere. Since NRA Instructors are exempt and I am an NRA Coach, I fought for an exemption. It took 3 months, but I won. Coaches train folks that have ben taught by Instructors. It's more advanced and I had to talk to the entire DOJ before someone believed me. It sucked.
