    FTF/PPT

Can a person NOT the owner, PPT a pistol.
for example, my 9th cousin twice removed, is selling a firearm to a person in Napa, I'm going to Napa, can I transport the firearm to Napa, on behalf of the Seller, and take to an FFL to do the transfer/DROS?

I don't see why not (meaning the sale would go through).............but that is just me.

It's implied the seller of a firearm is the owner...but it's not in the PC anywhere. The only way it comes back to bite you is if the firearm is/was or could be reported stolen.

I'd then have to disown my 8th cousin thrice removed if that were to happen

So, I gather its legal mainly.
I cant find anything against it.

Thought it was your 9th cousin twice removed.

One issue with what you are suggesting is the problem with transferring it to you by your taking it. That "transfer" is not legal in CA and by doing that you are breaking the law. You are not a shipping company, so you can't transport it that way and I doubt that the FFL would want to accept the firearm from a third party.

While nothing might come of all that, you could be questioned about how you got the firearm since you are claiming to own it and sell it.

Theoretically? Sure...but not practically. I've never had to question a seller in a PPT. Of course, I've never had one come to the counter and announce he was the seller of a gun they didn't own either. I've always figured it's not my job to be a detective in respect to actual ownership of a firearm. Now if someone says something that leads me to believe they're not necessarily the controling authority for the firearm...then I probably would refuse the PPT. Otherwise, if it ever comes out something wrong happened...the powers that be will run a trace and know where the gun is...so to me it's a wash.
