Guns required to be shipped from FFL??

I see all the time where some dealers say they will not receive guns that are not shipped from FFL's, and there are some who are willing too?

So my question is, why will some dealers accept guns, new and used, long and handguns sent to Cali from private citizens and FFL's in other states, and some FFL's say it's illegal.

So is the law vague on this or what.

Why? Because gun shop owners real job is being wrong, while sounding right.

Any FFL can accept a shipment from an out of state individual, IF the gun is California legal.

yeah, it is legal.. I find it is just a matter of choice by the FFl(s) - some will send others will not, some will receive and some will not.

IIRC, some outside states (Like NY) require that ffls receive pistols from other ffls for you to buy them. For example if "Joe" sold me a gun from Alaska he would have to ship it to my FFL in NY through a an FFL in Alaska.

I would like to see some penal code stuff about that, if you can provide it.

It varies. Sometimes it is because of state law, other times it is because the dealer is being anal.

California is NOT a state that restricts a NON-FFL from shipping a gun to an FFL in their state oddly enough.

I purchased a handgun from my brother in Nevada. Talked to DOJ, and was advised
he (brother) could hand the gun to a FFL here and the FFL would handle the transfer. Not all FFL's will, but I found one without too much trouble

Some states have different laws regarding who can ship a firearm.

It is the option of a FFL to require that they only receive firearms from another FFL, due in part to ensure that they get the information that they need. The BATF says that FFLs should not give a copy of their FFL to a non-FFL, but that annoys some people and stupid places like GunBroker.com claim that a copy of the FFL is required even for non-FFLs and refuse to listen to anything other than a letter from the BATF legal department (the FFL newsletter is not enough, the Federal Code is not enough), so it is just easier to only deal with FFLs.

It is not illegal in CA for a FFL to receive a firearm from a non-FFL, but it is still at the option of the FFL.
