Question about OOS transfer

If I buy a gun off gunbroker and have it sent to an FFL also OOS for customization at the cost of $100 and then the customization FFL ships it to my local FFL

Do I have to pay taxes on the original purchase price?

If not, do I pay taxes on the customization charge?

Yes, sales tax would have to be collected on the original purchase price.

I don't know if additional sales tax would need to be collected on the customization charge as that is a strange one. I think that you might though.

I would suggest, even though there would be extra shipping charge, is to have it shipped to your FFL so that you can inspect it and make sure that there are no problems. I would also consider shooting the firearm to make sure that there are no problems. If the firearm is defective, you could have a serious problem.

The FFL is responsible for collecting sales tax on the sales price of the firearm. So if you gave him a receipt for customization of $100, he should then ask for the original purchase price.

Im looking at FNP-45 Tactical and having it shipped to a FFL that does the SSE, is there a large risk of getting a defective pistol if its brand new?

No, there is not a large risk, but there is a risk. Are you willing to take that risk? There is a risk that it could have been damaged in shipping to that FFL as well.
